England's winning run against Australia under Eddie Jones continued on Saturday (November 18th) as the home side delighted the Twickenham crowd with a 30-6 victory.
It was the fifth win in five encounters for England under Jones, although the match was close until the later stages, when the home side's 'finishers' were once again used to great effect.
England took an early lead with two Owen Farrell penalties before Reece Hodge halved the arrears with a 47-yard place kick. However, the most dramatic action in the first half involved a number of close calls for the television match official (TMO) that went England's way.
Australia had a try disallowed in the first half and also lost captain Michael Hooper and full-back Kurtley Beale to the sin-bin as they ended the first half with 13 men.
England had been unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage and the close decisions going their way in the first-half, but Elliot Daly scored their first try early in the second half. Once again the TMO was involved, checking several times that the ball had not gone out of play.
Australia thought they had cut the arrears to 13-11 with a conversion to come when Marika Koroibete crossed the line, but this time replays showed replacement hooker Stephen Moore to be offside.
While the Wallabies were frustrated by the close decisions, England took a firm grip as Jones turned to his bench for reinforcements. As the visitors tired, Jonathan Joseph, Jonny May and the impressive Danny Care all scored tries to bring a recent renaissance in Australian form to a shuddering halt.
Fans booking corporate hospitality for the Six Nations matches in the Spring will be delighted at the way England continued their perfect winning record at Twickenham since losing to Australia there in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and will expect this to continue next week in the final Old Mutual Autumn International fixture against Samoa.
The Six Nations Championship will see England playing at Twickenham against Wales on February 10th and Ireland on March 17th.
