Novak Djokovic to begin comeback in December

October 25, 2017

Novak Djokovic will begin his comeback in December when he returns to the court at the Mubadala Tennis Championship in the UAE.

The three-time Wimbledon champion will be one of several star names at the event, and will be joined by Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic, whose own comebacks from injury will also commence at the same tournament.

Djokovic has missed the second half of the season with an elbow problem, while Wawrinka has been nursing a knee injury.

With the championship also featuring world number one Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Pablo Carreno Busta, the leading players will get a good test of their skills ahead of the 2018 Australian Open.

Fans booking corporate hospitality for the Championships, Wimbledon next summer will hope Djokovic and Wawrinka can recover the form that has made them both multiple Grand Slam winners. If Nadal and Roger Federer can maintain their 2017 form and Andy Murray can also make a strong comeback, 2018 could be a vintage year.

Speaking about the Mubadala Championship, Djokovic said: "The line-up is very strong and it will be the perfect way to make my comeback and begin the season."

All the top players will have some big targets in 2018. Federer will hope to take his Grand Slam tally to 20, while Nadal will aim to close the gap on the Swiss star in the hope of eventually matching or even surpassing his tally. Djokovic will be aiming to recover the form that deserted him after he joined the elite who have won all four Grand Slams at the 2016 French Open, and Wawrinka will aim to add his own name to that exclusive list by winning Wimbledon, having won each of the other three major titles once.

Murray will have his own targets next year, which will start with trying to finally land the Australian Open after losing five finals, a first French Open and then an attempt to equal Fred Perry's tally of three Wimbledon titles.
