Old Trafford to welcome back Javier Hernandez

July 25, 2017

With the start of the new Premier League season just weeks away, many fans will be thinking about their corporate hospitality options for the campaign.

Those eyeing up the facilities at Old Trafford will have a particularly exciting reason to make sure they are present for the first match of the season, as Manchester United take on West Ham United on Sunday August 13th.

Every new season means fresh faces in teams and this year will be no exception with striker Romelu Lukaku and defender Victor Lindelof set to make their Premier League debuts for the club. Others may follow, with United linked to possible moves for Tottenham and Chelsea midfielders Eric Dier and Nemanja Matic respectively, as well as Internazionale winger Ivan Perisic.

However, there will also be cheers for the return of a popular former player as Mexican striker Javier Hernandez - who plays with the nickname Chicharito (Little Pea) on his back - will be in the West Ham side.

Chicharito was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2010 and racked up 20 goals in his debut season. During his four-season stint at Old Trafford, he netted 59 times for the club and won two Premier League titles.

However, after Sir Alex retired and David Moyes came and went, Chicharito was one of those who felt the change. Louis Van Gaal lent him out to Real Madrid and then sold him to German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Now 29, the pacy striker is delighted to be back in English football. He told the West Ham club website: “For me, the Premier League is the best league in the world and when the opportunity came, I was desperate to sign for this club."

West Ham have also signed midfielder Marko Arnautovic from Stoke and left back Pablo Zabaleta from Manchester City. The latter will get a somewhat cooler welcome from the Old Trafford crowd than Hernandez.

Manchester United have been tuning up for the new season with some impressive results on the club's US tour, including a 2-0 win over neighbours Manchester City and a victory on penalties against European Champions Real Madrid after a 1-1 draw.

United will begin their competitive campaign against the Spanish giants in the European Super Cup in Skopje, Macedonia on August 8th.
