In conjunction with Epsom Downs Racecourse, hospitality providers Keith Prowse and silent auction company, Carita Services, over £11,000 has been raised for Racing Welfare at the Investec Derby Festival.
Epsom Downs: The charity auction was held for the first year in the Tattenham Straight Hospitality and has proven a great success. The silent auction offered 56 lots, including trips to Las Vegas and the Bahamas, limited edition canvases by UK artists, and a VIP shopping trip in Bond Street.
In order to provide help for those in need who work, or have worked, in the British racing and Thoroughbred breeding industries the Jockey Club created its own charity called Racing Welfare. Racing Welfare offers professional guidance and support through a nationwide network of regional welfare officers to the unseen army of dedicated staff whose work is vital for the well-being of Britain’s second biggest sport.
Dawn Goodfellow said: “We were delighted to hear Epsom Downs Racecourse, Keith Prowse and silent auction company, Carita Services were supporting Racing Welfare with this auction. It is fantastic to see what a success this was in its first year, and we send our thanks to all involved. Each year Racing Welfare needs to raise £1.4 million to continue its work. Last year, the charity experienced a 73 per cent increase in the number of people accessing its services so we are delighted by this support which allows us to help even more people from racing’s workforce.”
