NFL comes to Twickenham

March 28, 2017

Fans of the NFL have been able to watch games in London for a few years now, with Wembley Stadium hosting these showpiece events and Twickenham hosting its first games in 2016.

The sport will again be moving across the capital from the home of (association) football to that of rugby, as Twickenham prepares to play host to the NFL London Games 2017.

These matches will be of particular interest to fans of the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings.

Although the order in which the fixtures take place remains to be confirmed, it is known that the matches will be staged on October 22nd and 29th, while it will be the Vikings taking on the Browns and the Cardinals facing the Rams.

Fans can choose from a selection of corporate hospitality packages, with Keith Prowse having just been confirmed as the official hospitality sales agent for the matches.

The famous ground may not be reverberating to the customary strains of 'swing low, sweet chariot,' but it will surely be full to its 82,000 capacity, following on from the full houses expected at Wembley earlier in the autumn, when Baltimore Ravens take on Jacksonville Jaguars on September 24th and New Orleans Saints face Miami Dolphins on October 1st.

Since 2007, 14 regular season games have been played at Wembley, with the inaugural match featuring Miami Dolphins against the New York Giants. A second game was played in 2013 and since 2014, there have been three at Wembley. Twickenham has been the latest step in the evolution of the NFL in London.

With thousands attending fan events in Trafalgar Square and Regent Street, these matches have captured the imaginations not only of ex-pat Americans living in Britain, but a large UK audience as British fans get the chance to see the action live.

This year's action in London is bound to attract even more supporters as the sport continues to grow in popularity on this side of the Atlantic.
