What to wear to the cheltenham festival

December 29, 2016

With the famous four day horseracing festival only a month away, thoughts have turned to the one of the most important questions when attending any event…. What the heck do I wear?

Easy, the first thing you do is check the website for the dress code… oh wait, there’s no official dress code. The question just got even harder to answer.

To make matters worse, the weather in the UK is questionable at best. With winter ranging from a mild Indian summer to frosty Arctic conditions, you’ll have to plan for a wide range of weather conditions too. Perfect.

Cue frantic conversations with friends, colleagues and Google search; mass shopping sprees at all the online shops; and a final frantic dash into the wintery high street.

This year, you need not fear – the Keith Prowse team have done all the research for you. This is the only place you need to look to find out what you need to wear to the Cheltenham Festival.

The Men

Let’s start with the guys. If you’re heading into the Club Enclosure or will be enjoying one of our hospitality packages – a suit is the way to go.

Tweed, tweed and more tweed.

You never need an excuse to rock a tweed jacket but, if you did, the Cheltenham Festival is definitely one. Wear them with pride teamed with a shirt, tie and mixed trousers.

Remember it’s also winter. There’s no need to be stoic, opt for a three-piece or a cashmere jumper to add that extra layer of warmth. A wax jacket, or overcoat can also finish off the look.

Make sure that your shoes match your belt and are well polished. Laced brogues are always a good look and brogue boots will keep you warm and comfortable.

The Ladies

It’s winter, it’s cold; chiffon and light fabrics are not your friend. Opt for layers and heavier materials such as wool, tweed, crepe, or brocade. You can also keep a cashmere scarf rolled in your bag in case you’ve underestimated how cold the weather can turn.

Don't underestimate the coat.

The coat will be your saviour in the frosty weather. There are lots of gorgeous options out there that scream racing chic, whilst keeping your fingers from falling off.

The Hat

The ultimate excuse to get your best hat out, especially if you’re visiting the Cheltenham Festival during Ladies day and Gold Cup Day. An elegent Percher or a cut Pill box are great options.

Make sure you wear comfortable heels (or as comfortable as fashion allows!) that will also keep your toes warm. Opt for a slightly thicker heel on a boot or a closed toe shoe to mix style with comfort.
